Lost Velvet are a UK alternative rock duo based in Reading, blending cinematic post-rock with dark shoegaze textures to create haunting, dreamlike soundscapes. Formed by multi-instrumentalist and producer Robert Butcher alongside vocalist Melissa Morris, the project centres around a distinctive dual-vocal dynamic and a shared instinct for atmosphere-driven songwriting.
Their sound moves between weight and fragility, pairing layered guitars with grunge roots, subtle electronic elements and hazy vocals. Drawing influence from artists such as Radiohead, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Slowdive and Massive Attack, Lost Velvet craft music that feels both nostalgic and immediate, rooted in a ‘90s aesthetic but shaped with a modern, cinematic edge, with an undercurrent of darkwave atmosphere and industrial tension.
Often described as feeling like it’s pulled from a forgotten film reel, their work has been praised for “channeling neo-noir dread on hypnotic soundscapes” (Return of Rock) and as “a sonic portal – immersive, haunting, and designed to leave you floating between shadows” (TJPL News & Expansión Radial).
Since their debut in 2025, the band have steadily built momentum, with multiple releases receiving support from BBC Introducing across several regions. Their growing catalogue showcases a progression towards a darker, heavier and more expansive sound, culminating in their forthcoming debut album, Dark Cells, which is mixed by Michael
Patterson, known for his work with Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Puscifer, Amusement Parks on Fire and She Wants Revenge.
