Beatroots Bateria is a long running community samba drumming group based in Reading and run by the Readipop music charity. Renowned for their energetic, carnival-style music, Beatroots blends a rich mix of African, Asian, and Latin-American rhythms. The group is heavily influenced by the Bahian Samba Reggae beats of Salvador, Brazil.
Over three decades, Beatroots has performed at numerous major events and festivals, including WOMAD, the Thames Festival, London’s Millennium celebrations, and Live Earth at Wembley. During the London 2012 Olympics, the band entertained crowds at the Eton Dorney rowing events, and members proudly drummed in the Olympic Opening Ceremony.
